If you have experience in other motorsports, then you’re familiar with the shared tools you will use in karting, but there are also some karting-specific tools to be aware of. Here is our list of items to account for as you get into karting, or as a checklist to make sure you have what you need on your next track day.
1) Common Hand Tools
Socket Set, Box Wrench set, Plyers, Flat and Phillips Head Screwdrivers, Hex/Allen wrench set or drivers.
These are the most common must-have tools you likely already have. Ensure you have the appropriate size heads for all components you may need to adjust on a track day.
2) Automotive and Motosport Tools
Tire pressure gauge, Air Tank, or mini Air Pump
The most common is a small tank and tire pressure gauge of choice. Some use mini air pumps for a compact solution.
Safety Wire Pliers, and Wire. Be Absolutely Sure your Weights, and all essential saftey hardware are properly fastened, and either wired, clipped, or double-nutted were called for.
A Torque Wrench is also advised to ensure components are properly installed on the kart, and that you don’t risk problems from over or under-tightening fasteners.
3) Karting Specific Items
Karting Tire Bead Breaker and Tire Installation tool
These are a must for changing tires.
Alignment tools
Alignment is an important element in Kart Chassis setup, so appropriate alignment tools for your chassis is a must for chassis tuning.
Brake Bleeder Tool
Karts often use a gravity brake bleeder to fill and bleed the brakes, making one mandatory in order to properly maintain and service your braking system.
Kart Stand
You will also need the means to transport your kart around the paddock facilities, if you are solo explore one-person options that allow you to lever the kart onto the ground, otherwise, a friend or fellow driver will be needed to get your kart on and off the stand.
Chain Breaker, always handy to have a chain breaker with you trackside.
4) Spares
Any of these items are consumables and may require quick trackside replacement, ALWAYS bring spares!!
Spare Spark plugs, Spare Cap, and Spare Wire
Carburetor Rebuild Kit
Chain
Fuel Line
Throttle Cable and Housing
Beadlock Screws and O-Rings
Spare lug nuts for wheels
Safety hardware, Safety Wire
5) Fluids & Lubricants
Chain Lubricant is essential to ensuring you run trouble-free out on track.
Brake Fluid and Brake Bleeder, in case you need to bleed your brakes at the track
Brake Cleaner is a good idea for cleaning parts and making sure your brake system is clean of oil, grease, and debris.
Engine Coolant, if your engine is water-cooled, be sure to bring extra water for your radiator.
WD40 is a handy all-around lubricant and protectant, Be sure to spray down your exhaust pipe and axle at the end of the day to prevent rust!
